What would be useful to try before committing more time or money?
AI can open up an investigation quickly. It can also leave you with competing suggestions and a growing list of things to verify. Fieldwork is designed to help with that work: framing the question, examining the possibilities, and developing findings that relate to your actual constraints.
Start with a conversation
You do not need a polished brief or the perfect prompt. Start with what you are trying to achieve, what you have already tried, and where you feel stuck. We discuss what matters to you: the decision ahead, the resources available, and what a useful result would look like.
The initial inquiry is free, with no obligation to proceed. If the question is a good fit for paid work, we agree on the scope, deliverable, fixed fee, and timing before work begins. That gives the investigation a clear purpose and gives you a clear basis for deciding whether to continue.
Investigate with you, guided by human judgment
The consultant directs the research and uses AI tools to explore questions, compare approaches, and develop explanations. As we discuss what emerges, your knowledge of the situation helps refine the inquiry. A practical constraint or an unexpected finding may change which question is most useful to ask next.
Different tools or models may bring out different possibilities. The consultant's job is to examine those suggestions, check relevant sources, and explain where the evidence is strong or incomplete. Agreement between AI responses is not proof. An attractive idea still needs to be tested against your requirements and the information available.
Get a result you can use
The deliverable follows the question. It might be a comparison of options, a research brief with sources, a feasibility assessment, or a plan for a first experiment. We aim to make the reasoning visible: what we found, why it matters, what remains uncertain, and which next steps are worth considering.
For example, a question about a camera for cable inspection can lead to a more useful starting point: establish the detail the camera must capture, test lighting and working distance, and evaluate images before choosing flight hardware. Our worked example shows how an initial equipment question develops into a practical test plan.
Why work this way?
You get help using advanced AI without having to select and manage the tools yourself. The consultant handles the investigation while you contribute the context that makes it relevant. That division of work lets the conversation stay focused on your project and the choices you need to make.
A bounded scope and fixed fee make the engagement easier to assess. Keeping the findings and their reasoning together also gives you something to return to when circumstances change. The client conversation and use of the consultant's existing AI subscriptions are guiding the workflow we are developing; a hosted client service has not been launched.
